2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Linda Nichols Daniels was honored as the 2010 Woman of the Year by the Women’s Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk County, now Chesapeake, Linda Daniels graduated from Great Bridge High School and Madison College before beginning her exemplary educational career by teaching elementary school in Henrico County; and
WHEREAS, after moving with her family back to Chesapeake, Linda Daniels embarked on a successful teaching career that spanned more than two decades at Great Bridge Primary School; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic teacher, Linda Daniels worked to develop positive learning environments and encouraged her students to develop their potential; and
WHEREAS, an energetic and creative woman, Linda Daniels also influenced local children as a teacher and director at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church Preschool, where she and her husband are members; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, Linda Daniels heard about a new family shelter in the area, Union Mission Ministries Women and Family Shelter, and decided to adopt a room, furnishing it with bedding and other necessities; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service, Linda Daniels created the “Read a Book Leave a Book” program, where local volunteers bring a book to read to the children at the shelter and then leave the book so children can read and look at it again; and
WHEREAS, the “Read a Book Leave a Book” program has now grown to 24 women who go once a week to read and who have left 286 books, creating an easily accessible library for the children of the shelter so that they can continue to develop their reading skills; and
WHEREAS, Linda Daniels has also dedicated her time and energy to serving the greater community as an active member of the Chesapeake Friends of the Arts and the Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterways History Foundation; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her numerous community service activities, Linda Daniels enjoys spending time with her husband of 49 years, B.H., and their children Greg, Christie, and Gary, and their families, including six beloved grandchildren; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Linda Nichols Daniels on her selection as the 2010 Woman of the Year by the Women’s Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Nichols Daniels as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her exemplary leadership and contributions to Chesapeake and the Commonwealth.
