Celebrating the life of Alexander Charles Ernandes.

WHEREAS, Alexander Charles Ernandes, an outstanding young man from Moneta who touched the lives of his friends and family with his positive attitude and caring heart, died in January of 2011; and

WHEREAS, Alex Ernandes attended Dudley Elementary School, was homeschooled during his middle school years, graduated from Franklin County High School, and was enrolled in classes at Virginia Western Community College; and

WHEREAS, a highly disciplined young man, Alex Ernandes was a four-year member of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and Drill Team at Franklin County High School, where in his final year he served as the director of operations of the 170-member Corps; and

WHEREAS, an exceptional student, Alex Ernandes took three Advanced Placement Courses his senior year, in physics, calculus, and English, and excelled in all of his other courses; and

WHEREAS, Alex Ernandes was also a proud third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and enjoyed training others in those skills; he had also studied Tai Chi and Kung Fu; and

WHEREAS, a focused young man with many life goals, Alex Ernandes had set his sights on an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point with plans to eventually open a martial arts academy; and

WHEREAS, Alex Ernandes received a posthumous appointment to the United States Military Academy Class of 2015 at a memorial service held at his home church, Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, that was attended by scores of friends and family who gathered to remember his vibrant spirit and share their cherished memories; and

WHEREAS, a source of great joy to those who knew him, Alex Ernandes will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents Timothy and Jo-Ann; sisters Joan Marie and Colleen; and his other family members and numerous friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired and accomplished young man, Alexander Charles Ernandes; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alexander Charles Ernandes as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
