11104359DWHEREAS, Alan Watson Dutton, a long-term member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company of Loudoun County, died on December 7, 2010; and
WHEREAS, born on February 18, 1955, in Camden, New Jersey, Al Dutton graduated from Broad Run High School and received an associate’s degree in fire sciences from Northern Virginia Community College; and
WHEREAS, Alan Dutton joined the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad as a junior member in 1969, became a member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company in 1970 and served through 1979, served as a member of the Aldie Volunteer Fire Department from 1979 until 1995, and returned as a member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company from 1995 until the time of his death in 2010; and
WHEREAS, Alan Dutton also became a career firefighter for the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department on February 27, 1977, and retired as a well-respected Battalion Fire Chief on November 21, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Al Dutton generously gave of his time and talents to the Loudoun County fire and rescue community, helping to train three generations of volunteer and career firefighters at the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Training Center; and
WHEREAS, Al Dutton, also fondly known as “Big Al” by his firefighting family, was slight in stature, but well-known for his willingness to assist a fellow firefighter in need and will be sorely missed by his volunteer and career peers; and
WHEREAS, Al Dutton will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous manner and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 24 years, Jeanne Ellen Collins; his sons, Jason Alan and Christopher Michael; and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Alan Watson Dutton; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alan Watson Dutton as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
