Celebrating the life of Patricia McCormick Delano.

WHEREAS, Patricia McCormick Delano of Alexandria, an admired business owner and longtime community supporter, died on December 18, 2010; and

WHEREAS, born on March 17, 1950, in Washington, D.C., Patricia “Patti” Delano was the loving daughter of Theodora and Stephen McCormick and beloved sister of Teddi; and

WHEREAS, a spirited and vivacious young woman, Patti Delano grew up in Potomac, Maryland, and graduated from the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart; she then attended Baldwin-Wallace College for two years before completing her degree at the University of Arizona; and

WHEREAS, while a student, Patti Delano had the exciting opportunity to study abroad in Bregenz, Austria, where she met her future husband, Jeff; they married in 1973 and enjoyed more than 35 years of marriage and delighted in raising three children; and

WHEREAS, possessed of an outgoing manner and contagious energy, Patti Delano worked as a news broadcaster for WAZL/WVCD in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, before moving to WBRE-TV in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; AP Radio in Washington, D.C.; and Physician’s Radio Network in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, in 1982, Patti Delano and her husband decided to fulfill their entrepreneurial ambitions and go into business for themselves; they cofounded Delano Demolition Services, Inc., where Patti Delano served as the secretary-treasurer and oversaw all the office operations with a cheerful manner and eye for detail; and

WHEREAS, Patti Delano loved her community and served as a volunteer and generous patron of numerous organizations, including the American Horticultural Society, Friends of Mount Vernon, Children’s Medical Center, Inova Alexandria Hospital, The Humane Society, Child and Family Network Centers, Potomac Riverkeeper, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and

WHEREAS, Patti Delano treasured the time she spent with her friends and family while her radiant smile, sense of humor, and genuine warmth endeared her to them; and

WHEREAS, Patti Delano will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, Jeff; children, Stephen, Kassen, and Christopher; and her numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired business owner and gracious community supporter, Patricia McCormick Delano; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Patricia McCormick Delano as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
