Commending Linda Huntley.

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley of Staunton was crowned the 2010 Ms. Virginia Senior America on May 20, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a gracious and accomplished woman, Linda Huntley exemplifies the dignity, maturity, and inner beauty of senior American women that the Ms. Virginia Senior America competition recognizes; and

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley’s love of music and dance began as a young student when she was a majorette and played several instruments; after graduation from high school as an honor student, she went on to become valedictorian of her graduating class at business college; and

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley enjoyed a long career with the Commonwealth as an administrative assistant before working as sales manager of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center; and

WHEREAS, after her retirement from the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center, Linda Huntley continued to stay busy as she began work as a co-owner with family members of two different businesses while also doing part-time work; and

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley has enjoyed over 40 years of affiliation with pageants and now serves as the year-round volunteer director of the Miss Virginia Association of Fairs Scholarship Pageant; and

WHEREAS, as the volunteer director, Linda Huntley works closely with over 30 contestants and 75 directors, raises all scholarship moneys, and coordinates and executes all aspects of a four-day event; and

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley also performs as a member of a ladies traveling tap dance troupe called Diane and Company; drives her own motorcycle and participates in several benefit runs with different civic groups for fundraisers; and volunteers at her church; and

WHEREAS, in her free time, Linda Huntley enjoys spending time with the love of her life, Thomas, her husband of 44 years; their two children; and their four grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Linda Huntley, whose goal is to “live every day to its fullest,” is a worthy recipient of the Ms. Virginia Senior America title; she serves as an outstanding role model for other senior American women as she continues to live an active, vibrant life and uses her talents in the service of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Linda Huntley on her selection as the 2010 Ms. Virginia Senior America; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Huntley as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her lifetime of accomplishments.
