Celebrating the life of Russell E. Jones.

WHEREAS, Russell E. Jones of Richmond, a respected businessman and dedicated supporter of those in need, died on June 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a local businessman, Russell Jones joined the South Richmond Rotary Club in 1992 and became actively involved in the organization’s numerous charitable missions; he later received the coveted Silver Spur award for his many contributions; and

WHEREAS, Russell Jones actively supported the South Richmond Rotary Club’s Guyana Initiative, which worked with other Rotary clubs to send teams of doctors and dentists to the South American country of Guyana to provide critical medical and dental care to the children there; and

WHEREAS, the Guyana Initiative led to the creation of the International Hospital for Children, an organization that brings children from developing countries to Richmond to receive surgery from local volunteer surgeons; and

WHEREAS, in addition to participating in the creation of the International Hospital for Children, Russell Jones served as the bookkeeper and was a devoted fundraiser for the organization; and

WHEREAS, a humble and compassionate man, Russell Jones lived a life marked by remarkable generosity of heart and service to others that has had a profound impact on the lives of countless children and adults; and

WHEREAS, Russell Jones will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving family, many friends, and those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected and beloved citizen of the Commonwealth, Russell E. Jones; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Russell E. Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory and commitment to helping others in his community and around the world.
