Celebrating the life of David Paul Randlett.

WHEREAS, David Paul Randlett of Forest, a noted gospel music director and beloved pastor, died on October 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David Randlett was born on September 2, 1938, to Lillian Anne Saicoe Randlett and Paul Norman Randlett; and

WHEREAS, inspired by the power of music at a young age, David Randlett graduated from Eastern Nazarene College before earning a master’s degree in music from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, David Randlett began his successful career as a member of the music faculty at Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee, before moving to Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, for the past 37 years, David Randlett continued his inspiring music ministry at Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church, serving as a faculty member at Liberty University and minister of music for Thomas Road Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, passionate about the ability of music to touch individual lives, David Randlett directed the choir and led music for the Old Time Gospel Hour television program for several years and directed the “I Love America” touring program for Dr. Jerry Falwell; and

WHEREAS, David Randlett also directed and produced many Living Christmas Tree programs and was the founder of the Sounds of Liberty, a musical ministry team; and

WHEREAS, known and loved for his ready smile and selfless giving, David Randlett served as the senior associate pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church for the past 10 years, where he ministered to the needs of the congregation with a joyful spirit; and

WHEREAS, David Randlett delighted in using music to serve the Lord and inspire individuals; over the course of his long and productive life, he shared his enthusiasm and used his talents to bless thousands of people and served as a mentor for countless youth; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, David Randlett will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, M.J.; children, Karen and Paul, and their families; his mother, Lillian; and his numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved gospel music director and pastor, David Paul Randlett; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of David Paul Randlett as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
