Celebrating the life of Adlena Holloman Coleman.

WHEREAS, Adlena Holloman Coleman of Virginia Beach, a woman beloved by her family and respected in her community, died on April 3, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Adlena Coleman was born in Norfolk to loving parents James and Adlena Holloman; she was the youngest of eight siblings; and

WHEREAS, raised in the Titustown section of Norfolk, Adlena Coleman remained in the area for most of her adult life and was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Adlena Coleman married the love of her life, Bruce Coleman, Sr., and they had two wonderful children, Bruce and Clara, whom they delighted in raising; and

WHEREAS, a valued and dedicated employee, Adlena Coleman worked for the Norfolk Naval Supply Center until her retirement in the mid-1970s; and

WHEREAS, following her retirement, Adlena Coleman resided in various places with her son and his family, including locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois, Georgia, and Nebraska; and

WHEREAS, a woman of great faith, Adlena Coleman actively involved herself in a local church in the different states and frequently participated in senior activities where she enjoyed making new friends; and

WHEREAS, in 1996, Adlena Coleman returned to Virginia to be near her daughter and began to worship at Mount Zion AME Church; and

WHEREAS, loved by her friends and family for her sweet nature and giving heart, Adlena Coleman took great pleasure in spending time with her beloved family; and

WHEREAS, Adlena Coleman will be greatly missed by her son, Bruce, and his family, including precious grandchildren, Wendell and Bruce, and great-grandsons, Liam and Ross; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a woman beloved by her family and respected in her community, Adlena Holloman Coleman; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Adlena Holloman Coleman as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
