2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Hubert Carlyle Church, Sr., of Norfolk, a beloved and respected citizen of the Commonwealth, died on June 29, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Hubert Church was born on April 11, 1931, to loving parents Otis Rudolph and Julie Crocker Church and was one of seven siblings; and
WHEREAS, Hubert Church graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and was a member of the Alumni Band from 1941–1950, where he was a talented tenor sax player who relished the opportunity to play; and
WHEREAS, Hubert Church proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force before returning to Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated employee and skilled administrator, Hubert Church worked for the City of Norfolk for 15 years and enjoyed a successful and exemplary career with the Naval Air Station at Norfolk for 35 years, where he retired as a supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Hubert Church was an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church for 12 years, where he worshiped and enjoyed the fellowship of other members as they grew in faith and hope; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Hubert Church enjoyed spending time with his large and loving family, including his 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Hubert Church will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Sallie Mae; children, the Reverend Hubert Carlyle Church, Jr., Diane Boyd, Daphne Knight, Denise Taylor, and Devaughn Church, and their families; and his numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved and respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Hubert Carlyle Church, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Hubert Carlyle Church, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
