SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 282
Commending the Rappahannock High School baseball team.

WHEREAS, the 2010 Rappahannock High School Raiders baseball team ended the season triumphantly by winning the Virginia High School League Group A state baseball championship; and

WHEREAS, on the road to the state championship, the Rappahannock High School Raiders first won the Northern Neck District regular season title, then defeated the Northumberland High School Indians to win the District Tournament, before vanquishing the Nandua High School Warriors for the Regional Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Rappahannock High School Raiders claimed a decisive 7–4 victory over the Virginia High School Bearcats at Radford University on June 13, 2010; and

WHEREAS, the championship game stretched over two days when lightning flashed on Saturday, signaling the onset of severe storms that forced the teams to take cover and prevented play from resuming until the next morning; and

WHEREAS, before the storms interrupted game play, the Rappahannock High School Raiders held a hard-fought 4–3 lead over the Virginia High School Bearcats; and

WHEREAS, when the game resumed on Sunday morning, the Rappahannock High School Raiders stretched the lead to 7–4 and won the game after 20 minutes of play; and

WHEREAS, in the top of the seventh inning, senior Josh Hall, named Player of the Year on the 2010 Group A All-State team and the Rappahannock High School single-season record holder for runs batted in (RBI), scored his 59th RBI of the season; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Larry Barker was named Coach of the Year and senior outfielder Brandon Oliff was named Outfielder of the Year on the roster of the 2010 Group A All-State team; and

WHEREAS, Coach Barker praised the senior leadership, sharp focus, superior form, and sportsmanship of his players, who enjoyed an excellent regular season and delivered outstanding post-season play; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Rappahannock High School Raiders baseball team as the 2010 Virginia High School League Group A state baseball champions; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Larry Barker, Head Coach of the Rappahannock High School Raiders baseball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s 2010 championship performance.
