Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 8 of Chapter 1 of Title 9.1 a section numbered 9.1-172.1 as follows:

§ 9.1-172.1. Reimbursement for law-enforcement training by certain public employers.

A. As used in this section, "public employer" means the Commonwealth or any locality.

B. Whenever a public employer provides law-enforcement training for a person who has been or will be hired as a law-enforcement officer with such employer, and such person terminates his position with the employer to work as a law-enforcement officer within two years of completing the training, the subsequent employer shall reimburse the former employer the reasonable costs incurred for the training.
