2011 SESSION
11105525DWHEREAS, Karen Cronin, a beloved community member who made numerous contributions to Montgomery County, died on February 20, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cronin received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in corporate and professional communications from Radford University; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cronin began her career at WDBJ 7 and WSLC-FM Roanoke radio before moving to Virginia Tech as a video producer and radio programmer; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and positive colleague, Karen Cronin enjoyed a successful 22-year career at the university, retiring as senior producer for university relations in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cronin devoted herself in retirement to the betterment of her community, volunteering with numerous organizations, including the League of Women Voters on the local and state level, the United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd, and Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation; and
WHEREAS, a passionate supporter of eastern Montgomery County, Karen Cronin was a founding member of the EastMont Garden Club, EastMont Arts Association, and EastMont Tomato Festival Committee, and was delighted to be chosen as the Heirloom Tomato Queen in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cronin enjoyed sharing her artistic talents with others, volunteering as a craft teacher at Meadowbrook Public Library and Community Center, and spending time with friends and family as an avid tennis player; and
WHEREAS, chosen as a “Leading Light” by the United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd, Karen Cronin possessed a bright spirit that shone as a beacon to the Montgomery County community; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cronin lived life to the fullest, touching the lives of those around her and leaving countless positive memories for her husband, Michael, other family members, and numerous friends and admirers to cherish; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved community supporter, Karen Cronin; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Karen Cronin as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
