11104165DWHEREAS, Joseph Robert Brooks, Jr., a native of Norfolk and a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, died on December 18, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a diligent student, Joseph Brooks graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and continued to pursue his education at West Virginia State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree; and
WHEREAS, a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Joseph Brooks remained committed to the cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, a true American patriot, Joseph Brooks proudly served as a member of the United States Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Brooks was a valued and respected employee at both the United States Postal Service and the Navy Exchange in a dedicated career of public service that spanned more than three decades; and
WHEREAS, an active and responsible participant in church life from an early age, Joseph Brooks served as a trustee and as treasurer at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, after relocating to Florida, Joseph Brooks continued to grow in his faith and taught Sunday School at Murdock Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Brooks gave freely of his time to those in need of companionship through the Florida Gulf Coast Alzheimer’s Association; and
WHEREAS, placing duty to his country, love of his family, and service to his community above all, Joseph Brooks lived an honorable life that touched the lives of many; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Brooks will be fondly remembered by his many family members, friends, and neighbors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Joseph Robert Brooks, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joseph Robert Brooks, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
