11100764DWHEREAS, the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group was honored to receive the prestigious Walter T. Kerwin, Jr. Readiness Award as the nation’s most outstanding Army National Guard battalion for training year 2009; and
WHEREAS, the highly competitive Walter T. Kerwin, Jr. Readiness Award was established in honor of General Walter T. Kerwin, Jr., former Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army, and recognizes outstanding Guard and Reserve unit readiness; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion, based in Gate City, has over 800 soldiers with individual companies in Gate City, Emporia, Rocky Mount, Blackstone, and Martinsville; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion members have a range of duties that include supplying transportation and logistics support to providing maintenance resources; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion received the award based on its performance in several categories, including percentage of personnel qualified for their specific jobs, weapons-training scores, attendance at training sessions, and overall readiness for duty; and
WHEREAS, in 2009 the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion prepared two National Guard units for duty in Iraq and flawlessly conducted the return of the 1710th Transportation Company from Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the men and women of the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion demonstrate great professionalism, devotion to duty, and commitment to excellence in performing their duties; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group be commended for its receipt of the prestigious Walter T. Kerwin, Jr. Readiness Award as the nation’s most outstanding Army National Guard battalion for training year 2009; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia National Guard 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for the Battalion’s commitment to supporting the nation’s troops.
