HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 42
Celebrating the life of Ronald John Lloyd Terry.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 14, 2011

 

WHEREAS, Ronald John Lloyd Terry, a man of great faith and compassion and respected citizen of Roanoke, died on December 27, 2009; and

WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Ronald “Ronnie” John Lloyd Terry was born February 23, 1950, to Blanche Terry Frierson and the late Ellis W. Terry and was one of nine siblings; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Terry graduated from William Fleming High School, where he played baseball and football and was an enthusiastic supporter of many other sports; his love of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys continued throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Terry joined the United States Army with several of his high school friends shortly after graduation and proudly served his country before being honorably discharged; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Terry went on to fulfill his entrepreneurial ambitions by owning and operating Ronnie’s Hair Care for 14 years, where he was known for his skill and the care he gave his customers; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Terry then went to work at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem as a greeter, where his loving personality and affability made him a welcome sight to visitors and patients; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Terry was an active member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he was a member of the trustee board and the Mass Choir, led the Handicapped Bus Ministry, and coached Pee Wee and Little League Pilgrim Angels baseball teams; and

WHEREAS, a gifted musician, Ronnie Terry also loved to play his conga drums and other percussion instruments for the Mass Choir, John Hubbard Memorial Ensemble, Angelic Voices, and Male Chorus; and

WHEREAS, recognized for his dedication and service to Pilgrim Baptist Church, Ronnie Terry was named the church’s 2009 Man of the Year; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Ronnie Terry will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Gail; mother, Blanche; daughters, Traci, Tarina, Rhonda, and Danielle and their families; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates note with sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Ronald John Lloyd Terry; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ronald John Lloyd Terry as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
