Commending Ron Dunlap.

WHEREAS, in 2010 Ron Dunlap retired as President of the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association after almost 30 years of service; and

WHEREAS, a Virginia native, Ron Dunlap graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach; and

WHEREAS, from 1965 to 1970, Ron Dunlap served proudly in the United States Army as an Infantry Captain in Vietnam; he was awarded the Bronze Star in 1970; and

WHEREAS, after returning to the United States, Ron Dunlap used his golfing talent to work as a golf pro from 1970 to 1972 before launching a successful career in manufactured and modular housing; and

WHEREAS, from 1972 until 1982, Ron Dunlap worked in sales and management positions for manufactured housing companies in Tallahassee, Florida; Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Troy, North Carolina, before returning to the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Ron Dunlap was selected as Executive Director of the Virginia Manufactured Housing Association in 1982 and, after twenty years of service, was inducted into the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association Hall of Fame in 2002; and

WHEREAS, in 1985 Ron Dunlap assumed the role of Chairman of the National Manufactured Housing Executive Council; and

WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Manufactured Housing Federation and Manufactured Housing Institute in Washington, D.C., Ron Dunlap contributed to the formulation of national housing policies; and

WHEREAS, at the state level, Ron Dunlap advocated for change in housing policy in the Commonwealth, especially for allowing manufactured housing in agricultural zones; and

WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments in the industry, Ron Dunlap helped create the Virginia Manufactured Housing Board as the regulatory agency for manufactured housing in the Commonwealth and travelled extensively to assist localities with creating zoning regulations and to present on the affordability of manufactured and modular housing; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Ron Dunlap on the occasion of his retirement as president of the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ron Dunlap as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his many years of service to the Commonwealth.
