2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded in 1920 as a community-conscious, action-oriented organization with over 800 chapters and over 100,000 members worldwide, committed to effectively and compassionately meeting the needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was chartered in 1986 to serve the Alexandria, Virginia, community; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., founded the Nu Xi Zeta Helping Alexandria Virginia Excel (HAVE) Foundation Inc. to expand educational and personal development opportunities for youth ages 10 - 18; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., has provided thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to deserving high school students in Northern Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., has partnered with a number of community organizations to provide baby products to low-income mothers and encourage women to seek prenatal care, teach area women basic self-defense tactics, provide professional development workshops for families in transition, and encourage civic participation; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., has a long history of encouraging change through social action throughout the community and worked to educate and empower voters during the 2010 election cycle, making over 1,100 “get out the vote” voter contacts; and
WHEREAS, the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., has been recognized as a top fundraiser for the March of Dimes in the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Nu Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and gratitude for the chapter’s dedication to serving the community and people in need in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
