WHEREAS, Jason Alsbaugh, Anthony Burtt, Justin Hacker, David Hyde, and Pamela Anthony are commended for their courageous and heroic efforts to ensure the safety of others during an incident at the United States Social Security Administration offices in Danville; and

WHEREAS, on February 3, 2011, a person waiting in the Danville Social Security office became violent, attacking security officer Jason Alsbaugh; and

WHEREAS, a highly trained security officer, Jason Alsbaugh managed to disarm the attacker, despite having been stabbed multiple times; and

WHEREAS, meanwhile, Social Security employees Anthony Burtt and Justin Hacker and customer David Hyde leapt to Jason Alsbaugh's assistance, helping subdue the attacker before he could hurt anyone else in the office; and

WHEREAS, during the incident, Anthony Burtt fractured an elbow and reinjured a shoulder previously injured during his service in Operation Desert Storm; and

WHEREAS, another customer, Pamela Anthony, a training officer with 911 and former emergency medical services worker, treated Jason Alsbaugh's wounds on the scene; and

WHEREAS, in a rare ceremony on February 17, 2011, Commissioner Michael Astrue of the United States Social Security Administration honored Jason Alsbaugh, Anthony Burtt, Justin Hacker, David Hyde, and Pamela Anthony for their extraordinarily heroic actions; and

WHEREAS, the quick and decisive actions of Jason Alsbaugh, Anthony Burtt, Justin Hacker, and David Hyde prevented further injury to other employees and customers while Pamela Anthony's skillful medical attention was vital in treating Jason Alsbaugh’s wounds until he could be transported to a hospital; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jason Alsbaugh, Anthony Burtt, Justin Hacker, David Hyde, and Pamela Anthony for their courageous and heroic efforts to ensure the safety of others; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Jason Alsbaugh, Anthony Burtt, Justin Hacker, David Hyde, and Pamela Anthony as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation and admiration for their heroic actions.
