HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 951 Commending Peppy Linden.

WHEREAS, in 2011 Peppy Linden retired as the Executive Director of the Virginia Discovery Museum in Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, since 1981, the Virginia Discovery Museum has provided opportunities to engage the minds and excite the imaginations of children ages one to 10 and to encourage children and their families to explore the world around them; and

WHEREAS, during her 20-year tenure as executive director, Peppy Linden has marshaled the Virginia Discovery Museum from its infancy to its place as a Charlottesville landmark; and

WHEREAS, Peppy Linden initially organized traveling educational activities before the Virginia Discovery Museum found its first home on Ackley Lane near the Gordon Avenue Library in 1986; and

WHEREAS, since Peppy Linden, museum staff, and members of the board of directors oversaw the museum’s relocation to the Charlottesville Downtown Mall in 1990, the Virginia Discovery Museum has welcomed over 885,000 visitors; and

WHEREAS, Peppy Linden has been instrumental in the success of the Virginia Discovery Museum’s rotating exhibits, permanent programs, and successful community partnerships; and

WHEREAS, for two decades, Peppy Linden has devoted her efforts to engaging and teaching young minds and to reaching out to the parents and families of young children; and

WHEREAS, Peppy Linden leaves a legacy of innovative early childhood education and of strengthening families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Peppy Linden on the occasion of her retirement as the Executive Director of the Virginia Discovery Museum in Charlottesville; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Peppy Linden as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her commitment to the children and families of Charlottesville and the Commonwealth.
