Celebrating the life of Gregory J. Gilker.

WHEREAS, Gregory J. Gilker, an artist and community leader in Occoquan, died on June 17, 2010; and

WHEREAS, born on October 22, 1957, in Alexandria, Gregory "Greg" J. Gilker attended Garfield High School, where he learned to play the upright bass, and attended Mary Washington College; and

WHEREAS, a talented artist, woodworker, photographer, and independent businessman, Greg Gilker owned art galleries in Fairfax, Quantico, and Occoquan and a photography studio for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, from 2007 through 2010, Greg Gilker owned Roithers Frame & Design Center in his adopted hometown of Occoquan; and

WHEREAS, as the director of the highly successful Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show, Greg Gilker demonstrated his problem-solving skills and his talent for communicating with people in conflict; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to his family, friends, and community, Greg Gilker was the proud father of two sons, Richard and Charles; and

WHEREAS, known for his kind heart and generous support to friends in need, Greg Gilker regularly volunteered his services to repair many homes of the Good Shepherd Housing Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Greg Gilker will be remembered by his two sons, Richard and Charles, and by his many friends, family members, and the arts community for his lasting contributions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Gregory J. Gilker, artist and community leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gregory J. Gilker as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
