Celebrating the life of David A. Edwards.

WHEREAS, David A. Edwards, a beloved resident of Reston who played a pivotal role in its growth and development, died on February 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Ohio, David “Dave” Edwards received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy; he then continued his education, receiving a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Dave Edwards moved with his wife, Abby, to Reston in 1966, working first as a county planner and then enjoying a successful career with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority; he later retired from Washington Gas; and

WHEREAS, Dave Edwards enthusiastically involved himself in the local community, serving as one of the founders of the Reston Community Association, the predecessor of the Reston Citizens Association; and

WHEREAS, Dave Edwards continued to influence the development of Reston over the years, serving on numerous committees, helping in the planning and design of the Reston Community Center and South Lakes High School and providing valuable guidance on the future of Reston as a member of the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force and Reston 2020; and

WHEREAS, after retirement, Dave Edwards volunteered his time and energy to numerous organizations, including the Committee for Dulles, Washington Airports Task Force, Fairfax and Loudoun Counties Chambers of Commerce, Dulles Area Transportation Association, and the Northern Virginia Economic Development Coalition, of which he was a founding member; and

WHEREAS, a devoted citizen, Dave Edwards donated countless hours over the years for the betterment of Reston and Northern Virginia, profoundly shaping the community and region for the better; and

WHEREAS, Dave Edwards was honored as the Reston Citizens Association’s 2010 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contributions to his fellow residents and the community of Reston; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Dave Edwards will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Abby; children, Julie, Bobby, Brian, and Marc, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and the residents of Reston; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved citizen of Reston, David A. Edwards; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of David A. Edwards as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
