HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 925
Commending Major Kenneth D. Fitzgerald.

WHEREAS, Major Kenneth D. Fitzgerald, who has faithfully served the residents of Danville as a member of the Danville Police Department for 34 years, will retire on March 5, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Danville, Kenneth Fitzgerald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before returning home and joining the Danville Police Department as a patrol officer in 1976; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary officer respected by his colleagues, Kenneth Fitzgerald worked his way up the ranks, becoming an investigator, lieutenant of special investigations, SWAT commander, captain of patrol, and captain of investigations before his promotion to major in 2008; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Kenneth Fitzgerald furthered his education, receiving an associate’s degree and completing studies at the Northwestern University Traffic Institute, National Intelligence Academy, Southern Police Institute, and Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership; and

WHEREAS, a knowledgeable role model, Kenneth Fitzgerald has generously shared his experience and expertise with new recruits as they embark upon their law-enforcement careers and guided more experienced officers as they have advanced; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Fitzgerald has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding service, including recognition as the 1980 Danville Jaycees Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, a 1995 Certificate of Merit from the Recording Industry Association of America, and 1996 Commission as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky among others; and

WHEREAS, Major Fitzgerald has protected and served the citizens of Danville with great honor, integrity, and commitment to excellence in keeping with the proud traditions of the Danville Police Department; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend an exemplary law-enforcement professional, Major Kenneth D. Fitzgerald, on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Major Kenneth D. Fitzgerald as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for his years of dedicated service to the citizens of Danville.
