2011 SESSION
11105157DWHEREAS, Philip John Farley III, an admired sergeant with the Herndon Police Department, died on February 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Philip Farley joined the Herndon Police Department in April of 1986 and underwent a rigorous recruitment process and hours of training in preparation of serving his fellow residents with the degree of professionalism expected of all members of the Herndon Police Department; and
WHEREAS, a highly decorated officer, Sergeant Farley played a vital role in helping the Herndon Police Department stay abreast of important technological trends and changes that impacted law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, known and respected for his friendly demeanor and commitment to excellence, Sergeant Farley helped the department transition to its first electronic records and communications system and update its weapons and equipment; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary role model, Sergeant Farley provided important guidance to newer members of the police department, sharing his experience and expertise and serving as a firearms and defensive tactics instructor; and
WHEREAS, in 2010 Sergeant Farley was honored at the Herndon Police Department’s Valor Awards ceremony with a Chief’s Award, in recognition of his contributions, achievements, and dedication; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his almost 25-year career, Sergeant Farley protected and served the residents of Herndon with great distinction and devotion to duty; and
WHEREAS, a remarkably accomplished man, Sergeant Farley was also a small engine pilot, flight instructor, and certified scuba diver who had recently completed his master’s degree; and
WHEREAS, Philip Farley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 23 years, Tama; children, Shane, Sonia, and Ashleigh; parents, John and Eva; and numerous other family members and friends, and the citizens of Herndon; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired law-enforcement professional, Philip John Farley III; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Philip John Farley III as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
