2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jeff Todd, an admired businessman and community leader, was honored at the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce Holiday Business Awards Celebration with the 2010 Chamber Citizen Award for his many contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, as a young man, Jeff Todd and his family relocated frequently as a result of his father’s work in the restaurant industry for Marriott; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from high school in Williamsburg and attending the University of Connecticut, Jeff Todd settled in Northern Virginia, where he has spent the past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Todd gained a wealth of information from his father about the restaurant industry and decided to follow in his footsteps; and
WHEREAS, a successful entrepreneur, Jeff Todd owns and operates three Roy Rogers Family Restaurants in the Mount Vernon and Lee areas, focusing on providing his employees a great place to work and his customers great food at a great price; and
WHEREAS, a hardworking business and civic leader, Jeff Todd serves as the chair of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Mount Vernon-Lee Education Partnership and on the boards of several Mount Vernon nonprofit organizations, such as Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services and United Community Ministries; and
WHEREAS, Roy Rogers Restaurants provides free meals to volunteers for the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce Annual U.S. 1 Highway Cleanup; and
WHEREAS, in 2010 Jeff Todd was honored with the Corporate Citizen Award by United Community Ministries for his efforts to support the needy in the Mount Vernon Community; and
WHEREAS, the Roy Rogers Restaurants have also worked with organizations to provide Christmas gifts to impoverished seniors in facilities by collecting gifts at their restaurants; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Todd is a dedicated supporter of Mount Vernon High School athletics, sponsoring the Roy Rogers Bowl annually, announcing basketball games, participating in the Mount Vernon Men of Vision and Purpose Program (The MVP Program) supporting at-risk students, and helping other school programs; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Todd generously gives of his time, talent, and resources to help local causes, including donating food for chamber events, collecting money and toys for local charities, and holding fundraisers for local schools; and
WHEREAS, a motivational leader, Jeff Todd is “just a burger guy trying to do the right things in life” who has encouraged other local businesses to give back to the community even in the midst of difficult economic times; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Todd’s humble service to his community has inspired others while providing much needed help to many local charitable institutions and organizations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jeff Todd on his well-deserved selection as the 2010 Chamber Citizen Award recipient; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeff Todd as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on his accomplishments and appreciation for his service to the community.
