WHEREAS, Ray Vandall ably served the County of Amherst and its residents as a member of the Amherst County Board of Supervisors from 2004 until 2010 and as chair in 2007; and

WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, Ray Vandall attended Beckley College and the University of Charleston before embarking on a successful career in telecommunications that took him to Charleston, West Virginia, and Manassas, Virginia, before he came to Amherst County in 1996; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Madison Heights, Ray Vandall has worked diligently to enhance the quality of life for all Amherst County residents through his involvement with the county budget process and efforts to expand water and wastewater facilities; and

WHEREAS, Ray Vandall worked successfully with local boards, commissions, and councils to establish the Amherst County inoperative motor vehicle plan to clean up unsightly vehicle graveyards and to bring Amherst County into the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority; and

WHEREAS, as a member and chair of the Region 2000 Local Government Council for four years, Ray Vandall played a vital role in establishing the Amherst County Economic Development Authority and a new county animal care center; and

WHEREAS, Ray Vandall has also devoted his time and efforts to serving the local community through his membership in the Amherst Monroe Ruritan Club, having been selected Ruritan of the Year by the club for five years; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant, Ray Vandall demonstrated great enthusiasm and commitment as he worked to continue to make Amherst County a great place in which to live and visit; and

WHEREAS, after six years of devoted service, Ray Vandall looks forward to spending time with his wife of 55 years, Janet; and their two children and their families; and continuing to demonstrate his culinary skills as chair of the Amherst Monroe Ruritan Club’s Kitchen Committee; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Ray Vandall for his outstanding service and devotion on the Amherst County Board of Supervisors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ray Vandall as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation and gratitude for his public service.
