11105254DWHEREAS, C. Braxton Parks, a retired grocer, dedicated volunteer, and longtime resident of Parksley, died on January 20, 2011; and
WHEREAS, born on June 26, 1916, in the Fox Grove area of Parksley, Braxton Parks was a son of the late Carroll Parks and Carrie Hart Parks; and
WHEREAS, during the Depression, Braxton Parks served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked to beautify and improve the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, after retiring from ACME Markets as a grocery store manager, Braxton Parks worked with the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home; and
WHEREAS, as a 71-year member of the Parksley Volunteer Fire Company, Braxton Parks held many leadership roles throughout the years and led the company as chief for 19 consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, Braxton Parks served for many years on the Parksley Town Council and generously contributed his energies to other community and civic organizations throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, committed to the Masonic ideals and principles, Braxton Parks joined the Central Lodge 300 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and was a former member of Parksley Lodge 325 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; he received his 50-year pin, was a member of Khedive Shrine Temple, and achieved 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite Bodies; and
WHEREAS, Braxton Parks was the oldest living member of Grace United Methodist Church in Parksley, where he held many administrative and committee positions and was a member of the Methodist Men; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, Braxton Parks will be fondly remembered by his sons, Ron and Carter; his four grandchildren and his great-grandson; and by the many town leaders, neighbors, and friends who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of C. Braxton Parks, retired grocer and dedicated volunteer; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of C. Braxton Parks as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
