HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 897
Celebrating the life of Clarence W. Burton.

WHEREAS, Clarence W. Burton, an esteemed veteran of World War II and resident of Suffolk, died on February 4, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Clarence Burton was known in the Suffolk community as a man of honor who valued his community; and

WHEREAS, a proud American patriot, Clarence Burton served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Burton was a charter member of the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, formed on October 1, 1960; and

WHEREAS, as a longtime volunteer with the rescue squad, Clarence Burton gave generously of his time to protect the safety of members of his community; and

WHEREAS, after a 30-year career of dedicated service to the City of Suffolk, Clarence Burton retired from his position as a code inspector; and

WHEREAS, Clarence Burton was respected for his many contributions and for his dedication to safeguarding the lives of the citizens of Suffolk; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, Clarence Burton will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Christine, and son, Clarence, Jr.; his grandchildren, Douglas, Lee Anne, Jonathan, and Hayley; and many family members, neighbors, and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Clarence W. Burton, esteemed veteran of World War II; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Clarence W. Burton as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
