WHEREAS, Christine Loveday Hall accomplished the great feat of cycling across the United States; and
WHEREAS, an avid cyclist, Christine “Chris” Hall began her journey in Manhattan Beach, California, by dipping the back tire of her bicycle in the Pacific Ocean; and
WHEREAS, during her journey of 3,465 miles, Chris Hall traveled through 15 states, where she crossed the Mojave Desert, traversed the Continental Divide, rode the “Yellow Brick Road” around the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis, Indiana, and stood on the corner of Winslow, Arizona; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated supporter of the United States Armed Forces and the wife, daughter, and sister of veterans, Chris Hall rode in honor of all those who serve their country; and
WHEREAS, inspired to use her ride across the country to raise money to support service members, Chris Hall asked her friends and family to support her efforts and raised over $28,000 for the Semper Fi Fund to help wounded marines, sailors, soldiers, and their families; and
WHEREAS, after cycling for seven weeks, Chris Hall ended her journey in Boston, Massachusetts, by dipping the front tire of her bicycle in the Atlantic Ocean; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hall will ride 1,601 miles from Maine to Florida in the fall of 2011, covering 13 states in 21 days, to again raise funds for the Semper Fi Fund; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Christine Loveday Hall on her accomplishments and efforts on behalf of America’s service members; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christine Loveday Hall as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes.
