Commending Caitlin Connor Uze.

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze, the reigning Miss Greater Richmond from Arlington, was crowned as Miss Virginia 2010 before an enthusiastic crowd in Roanoke on June 26, 2010; and

WHEREAS, the Miss Virginia pageant promotes intelligent, poised, and highly motivated young women who wish to make a difference in their community and earn scholarship money to further their education; and

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze was chosen as Miss Apple Blossom Festival 2009, was second runner-up in the 2009 Miss Virginia pageant, and finished in the top 10 in the 2008 Miss Virginia pageant before capturing the Miss Virginia title in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze represented Virginia at the Miss America Pageant held in January 2011 and was a Top Ten Finalist; she was also named a finalist for the prestigious Quality of Life Award and was the recipient of the Marion A. Crooker Volunteer and Community Service Award; and

WHEREAS, during her reign as Miss Virginia, Caitlin Connor Uze will travel throughout the Commonwealth, sharing her message of “Uniquely You: Building Positive Self Image,” with the youth of the Commonwealth and serve as the Virginia state ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network; and

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze’s school presentations, sponsored by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, focus on self-worth and self-image, bullying, leadership, and the importance of saying “no” to tobacco, drug, and alcohol abuse; and

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze has worked with the Virginia Commission on Youth and the Office of the Attorney General to study the effects of bullying in Virginia’s schools; she is spokesperson and advocate on the state and federal level for Girls Inc.; and

WHEREAS, an accomplished Irish step dancer, Caitlin Connor Uze danced for 10 years with the prestigious O’Neill-James School of Irish Dancing and qualified to compete in the World Irish Dance Competition in Ireland; and

WHEREAS, an exceptional student, Caitlin Connor Uze is currently pursuing a degree in social work at James Madison University, where she has been named to the President’s List and inducted into the Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Caitlin Connor Uze has earned $38,000 in scholarship money through her outstanding success in the Miss Virginia, Miss Greater Richmond, and other pageants; she plans to pursue a master’s degree in social work and aspires to become a Child Life Specialist; and

WHEREAS, a young woman of intelligence, talent, and dedication, Caitlin Connor Uze is an exceptional ambassador for the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Caitlin Connor Uze on her selection as Miss Virginia 2010; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Caitlin Connor Uze as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her many accomplishments.
