11105212DWHEREAS, Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk was founded 50 years ago through the dedication and vision of a group of 75 students and the support of the United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Wesleyan College has been educating students from around the United States, and from throughout the world, since 1961, and has been viewed as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country; and
WHEREAS, even with more than 1,400 current students, 38 different fields of study, and over 70 student organizations, Virginia Wesleyan College continues to have a sense of family and community; and
WHEREAS, what began as a modest campus has grown to become a high-tech student community that nurtures personal growth, education, and innovation through small class sizes and leadership development; and
WHEREAS, because of its academic success over its 50-year history, Virginia Wesleyan College has been named the “Best Southeastern College” by Princeton Review, one of America’s “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report, and inclusion in Rugg’s “Top 100 Colleges”; and
WHEREAS, 2011 marks the 50th anniversary of Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Virginia Wesleyan College on its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Wesleyan College as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to the College for its contributions to the Commonwealth of Virginia and for providing 50 years of educational excellence to its citizens.
