HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 859
Commending the Medical Care for Children Partnership.

WHEREAS, in 2011 the Medical Care for Children Partnership celebrates 25 years of providing valuable medical and dental services to Fairfax County children; and

WHEREAS, the Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP) was founded in 1986 as a public-private partnership to fund health care for children in low-income, uninsured working families; and

WHEREAS, MCCP works through three partners—Fairfax County; the medical community, including more than 500 physicians, specialists, dentists, pharmacies, and Kaiser Permanente; and corporate, foundation, and individual financial supporters—to provide medical and dental services to children in need; and

WHEREAS, MCCP serves Fairfax County children from birth to 18 years of age and whose family income is less than 250 percent of the poverty level, who might not otherwise receive appropriate medical and dental care; and

WHEREAS, a cost-effective way to provide medical and dental services, MCCP estimates a cost per child of $325 annually compared with the American Academy of Pediatrics estimate of $1,361 for providing a comprehensive medical benefits package annually to children; and

WHEREAS, MCCP has received numerous awards and accolades for its outstanding service including the Innovations in State and Local Government Award of the Ford Foundation and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and

WHEREAS, a nationally recognized program, MCCP has received recognition from Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top 40 charities that serve children in the Washington, D.C., area, was featured on an ABC Network special, and has been honored to have its program cited in two published books and many newspaper and magazine articles; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, MCCP has served over 85,000 children, providing them with the health and dental care needed to ensure they enjoy their childhood in as healthy a way as possible; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Medical Care for Children Partnership on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Medical Care for Children Partnership as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for the Partnership’s dedication to the children of Fairfax County.
