Celebrating the life of Ronald Earl Price.

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Price, a lifetime farmer and resident of Augusta County, died on January 20, 2010; and

WHEREAS, born to a farming family in Sussex, New Jersey, Ronald Price participated in the Future Farmers of America, showed animals at the New Jersey State Fair, and assumed responsibility for his family’s dairy farm while in high school; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Price served as the past president and board member of the Board of Agriculture and was a member of many agricultural associations including the 4-H Council, the National Dairy Herd Information Association, Holstein Association, and Dairylea Cooperative Inc.; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Sussex County Agricultural Society, Ronald Price organized research for the book “Living on the Farm” which explored the more than 200-year history of six family-owned farms; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Price and his wife, Margaret, put down roots in the Commonwealth when they purchased a dairy farm in the Shenandoah Valley and made the Staunton area their home in 1977; and

WHEREAS, in Virginia, Ronald Price became a valued contributing member to Select Sires, the Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau, the Augusta County Farm Bureau Federation, the Mint Spring Ruritan Club, and other regional cattle and dairy associations; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his involvement in many agricultural organizations, Ronald Price contributed to his community as a member of the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Price was an appreciated member of the congregation of Mint Spring United Methodist Church where he served in the Open Door Fellowship Sunday School, in the Mint Spring United Methodist Men, and as a trustee; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Price was the proud father of five children, Ronald, Robert, William, Carol, and Sandra, and enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Price will be fondly remembered by his wife, Margaret, and by his many family members, neighbors, and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ronald Earl Price, a lifetime farmer and respected Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ronald Earl Price as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
