Commending Pinnacle Academy.

WHEREAS, Pinnacle Academy, a nonprofit, private elementary and middle school in Oakton, strives to provide its students with an advanced science, math, and foreign language education that will prepare them for more rigorous studies in higher education and success in their life and careers; and

WHEREAS, Pinnacle Academy introduces students to advanced math and science education at a younger age while encouraging students to study two foreign languages to prepare them for an increasingly global and multicultural world and workforce; and

WHEREAS, Pinnacle Academy promotes a positive learning environment where differences are cherished and global citizenship and tolerance valued with the strong support of an effective parent-teacher organization; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to provide the best possible education for its students, Pinnacle Academy utilizes the latest technical equipment and applications while students enjoy small class sizes and individualized academic counseling; and

WHEREAS, Pinnacle Academy students have won numerous awards and accolades for their outstanding achievements in math and science, including winning numerous gold, silver, and bronze honors in the 2009 and 2010 Virginia Regional and State Science Olympiads; and

WHEREAS, in 2010 the Pinnacle Academy team took first place in the National Engineers Week Future City Competition for the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area; the competition requires students to work collaboratively to design a city of the future, first creating a computer model and then constructing a three-dimensional scale model from recycled materials; and

WHEREAS, the Pinnacle Academy team was thrilled to be invited to meet with President Barack Obama and present their winning project at the White House Science Fair in October 2010; and

WHEREAS, in January of 2011, the Pinnacle Academy Future City Competition team again won first place in the regional competition, which will allow them another opportunity to attend the national competition in February; and

WHEREAS, Pinnacle Academy students continue to excel in their endeavors with the support of the faculty and staff, the encouragement of their families, and the visionary leadership of the administration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Pinnacle Academy for its outstanding success in providing its students with a premier math and science education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mustafa Akpinar, principal of Pinnacle Academy, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on the school’s many achievements and appreciation for providing quality education to the students of the Commonwealth.
