HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 846
Commending White Oaks Elementary School.

WHEREAS, in 2010 White Oaks Elementary School in Burke celebrated 30 years of providing quality education to the students of Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, constructed in 1980, White Oaks Elementary School educates students from kindergarten through the sixth grade; and

WHEREAS, the mission of White Oaks Elementary School is to provide exceptional educational and developmental opportunities for all students in a secure, caring, motivating, and enriched learning environment; and

WHEREAS, the 70 faculty and staff members of White Oaks Elementary School work to foster the realization of the unique intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and artistic potential of each of their 700 students; and

WHEREAS, teachers and administrators at White Oaks Elementary School collaborate with parents and community members to encourage students to develop enthusiasm and curiosity for lifelong learning, strong academic skills, and critical and creative thinking abilities; and

WHEREAS, White Oaks Elementary School places exceptional value on showing compassion and respect for others, personal confidence, individual and civic responsibility, and a commitment to high ethical standards; and

WHEREAS, embracing the motto of “Ensuring Excellence for Every Child,” White Oaks Elementary School implements continuous progress instructional models in the subject areas of reading and mathematics; and

WHEREAS, White Oaks Elementary School offers fifth and sixth grade students an array of elective courses designed to allow them to explore and develop their artistic talents; and

WHEREAS, placing a strong emphasis on technological competency, White Oaks Elementary School integrates technology into the overall instructional program with more than 200 computers in labs and classrooms, allowing students to save and retrieve their assignments throughout the facility; and

WHEREAS, the success of the students at White Oaks Elementary School is attributable not only to the dedicated efforts of the students, faculty, and administrators, but also countless volunteer hours of parents and the organized and enthusiastic Parent Teacher Association; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend White Oaks Elementary School for providing more than 30 years of quality education to the students of Fairfax County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Principal Connie Goodman as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for the service that White Oaks Elementary School provides to Fairfax County and to the Commonwealth.
