11104530DWHEREAS, Samuel Ernest Bush, Jr., the beloved director of the Greensville-Emporia Department of Social Services, died on April 20, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a man of great integrity who spent his life advocating for the underprivileged, Samuel “Sam” Bush began his career with the Department of Social Services in 1970 in Portsmouth, before becoming director of the Greensville-Emporia Department of Social Services in 1974; and
WHEREAS, an innovative leader and able administrator, Sam Bush worked diligently to provide essential services to residents while working with other local, state, and federal agencies to ensure the efficient and effective administration of programs; and
WHEREAS, Sam Bush developed a strong rapport with local clients, his employees, and community members based on mutual respect and genuine compassion; and
WHEREAS, driven by a desire for all Virginians to achieve their potential, Sam Bush shared his experience and expertise as a member of the Virginia League of Social Services Executives, where he was instrumental in crafting policies and legislation impacting social services on the local and state level; and
WHEREAS, a well-known figure in the community, Sam Bush was a 30-year member of the Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad, member of the Emporia Rotary Club, and board member of the local YMCA; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Samuel Bush leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Janey and sons Samuel and Richard, in addition to his other family members, friends, and the many individuals whose lives he touched over the course of his long and rewarding career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an influential advocate for the underprivileged and esteemed citizen of the Commonwealth, Samuel Ernest Bush, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Samuel Ernest Bush, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
