2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Norfolk Christian High School football team won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association, Division III state championship on November 19, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Norfolk Christian High School began its football program in 2005 with a dream of building a competitive varsity program; and
WHEREAS, on the road to victory, the Norfolk Christian High School Ambassadors finished their regular season of play with a record of 11 wins and only a single loss; and
WHEREAS, this was the Ambassadors’ first state tournament appearance in the program’s sixth season; and
WHEREAS, facing North Cross of Roanoke for the championship, a seasoned team that had advanced to last year’s semifinals, the Ambassadors opened up a 17 - 0 lead in the first half; and
WHEREAS, despite a fierce comeback attempt by the Raiders, Norfolk Christian never lost their competitive edge, and when the final whistle blew the Ambassadors claimed the championship title 29 - 14; and
WHEREAS, celebrating his first state championship as head coach of the Norfolk Christian Ambassadors, Heath Gibbs commended the dedication of his players and guidance provided by the top-notch assistant coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, the Norfolk Christian High School Ambassadors drew great strength and energy from the unflagging support of their families and the coaches, students, and staff at Norfolk Christian High School to win the championship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Norfolk Christian High School football team on their outstanding season and Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association, Division III state title; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Heath Gibbs as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance of the Norfolk Christian High School football team.
