Celebrating the life of Private First Class David Taylor Miller.

WHEREAS, United States Army Private First Class David Taylor Miller, a native of Virginia, died in the line of duty on June 21, 2010, while serving near Lar Sholtan Village in the Kunar province of Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, born and raised in Central Virginia, David “Taylor” Miller was the son of Jesse and Leslie Miller and the brother of Victoria; and

WHEREAS, a young man of integrity and high principles, Taylor Miller was a member of Boy Scout Troop 43 Amherst and attended The Church of the Epiphany in Amherst; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Miller attended Amherst County High School until 2007, when he moved to Saratoga Springs, New York; at both Amherst County and Saratoga Springs High Schools, he excelled in his studies and enjoyed playing football; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Miller enlisted in the United States Army shortly after his high school graduation in 2009 and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, well-regarded by his fellow soldiers and leaders, Private Miller was proud to serve his country and had been stationed in Afghanistan for two months when a suicide bomber attacked his unit; and

WHEREAS, Private Miller was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal, in addition to numerous other medals and awards for his meritorious service; and

WHEREAS, Private Miller will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Jesse and Leslie; his sister, Victoria; and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow soldiers; and

WHEREAS, Private Miller’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Private First Class David Taylor Miller, a courageous and patriotic Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Private First Class David Taylor Miller as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
