11104319DWHEREAS, Josephine Faoro Weber, a retired intelligence officer and resident of Oakton, died on January 3, 2011; and
WHEREAS, known affectionately as “Josie” to her family and friends, Josephine Weber was born into an immigrant Italian coalmining family on November 7, 1922, in Sopris, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, a true American patriot, Josephine Weber moved to Washington, D.C., to work in the War Department during World War II; and
WHEREAS, while working in Washington, Josephine Weber met and married the late Karl Weber, her husband of 54 years; and
WHEREAS, committed to protecting the American way of life, Josephine Weber joined Karl at the Central Intelligence Agency and embarked on a career in counterintelligence that would span two decades; and
WHEREAS, a naturally talented linguist and dedicated scholar, Josephine Weber achieved native fluency in Spanish during her years of providing national security intelligence to U.S. policymakers; and
WHEREAS, Josephine Weber and her husband Karl were avid birdwatchers who travelled the globe enjoying international birding trips; and
WHEREAS, Josephine Weber retired in 1998 following 22 years of valued and respected service to her country; and
WHEREAS, Josephine Weber embodied the traits of intelligence, diligence, and thoroughness that are the hallmark of an outstanding public servant; and
WHEREAS, Josephine Weber will be fondly remembered by her four daughters, Janet, Cynthia, Gretchen, and Karla; her granddaughters, Eleanor, Julia, and Genevieve; and the many family members and friends who knew her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Josephine Faoro Weber, retired intelligence officer; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Josephine Faoro Weber as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
