WHEREAS, since 2008 the Virginia chapter of the Equipping Businesses for Success Institute has worked diligently to provide training for women and minority small business owners in the Commonwealth of Virginia and to influence public policy through education and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, this grassroots network of business and community leaders has been instrumental in working for the enactment of public policy that ensures the rights of all small businesses are protected; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes the significant contributions made by more than 204,400 women-owned and minority-owned small businesses that contribute over $12.2 billion to the state’s economy annually, through job creation and economic development; and

WHEREAS, the Equipping Businesses for Success Institute continues to seek opportunities and resources for more than 10,260 women and minority small business owners who are state certified, in the wake of the results from the Final Report of “A Disparity Study for the Commonwealth of Virginia” that shows substantial disparity exists in state procurement contracting; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Equipping Businesses for Success Institute for its commitment to educational training and advocacy for women-owned and minority-owned small businesses; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Equipping Businesses for Success Institute as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for the services provided to small businesses in the Commonwealth of Virginia and to the Secretary of Administration and the League of Women Voters of Virginia.
