11103944DWHEREAS, Dave Edwards was honored as Reston’s 2010 Citizen of the Year by the Reston Citizens Association on January 13, 2011; and
WHEREAS, one of the founders of the Reston Community Association, which was the predecessor of the Reston Citizens Association, Dave Edwards has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of Reston; and
WHEREAS, after receiving a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina, Dave Edwards moved to Reston in 1967 and immediately put his education to use for the betterment of his new community; and
WHEREAS, Dave Edwards served on the Reston Community Association board from 1968 to 1972 and over the years has graciously served multiple terms on various committees, including the Reston Planning and Zoning Committee; and
WHEREAS, a respected leader whose foresight has been instrumental to the Reston community, Dave Edwards helped in the planning and design of the Reston Community Center and South Lakes High School and the establishment of the Small Tax District; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic advocate for Reston residents and visitors, Dave Edwards has provided thoughtful guidance and direction regarding improvements to transportation for the burgeoning area as the current vice-chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dave Edwards will help shape the future of Reston through his membership on the Reston Master Plan Task Force and Reston 2020, which is tasked with preparing a new plan for the future of Reston; and
WHEREAS, Dave Edwards has contributed countless hours over the years to help make Reston a great place to live and visit, making him a worthy recipient of the Citizen of the Year award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Dave Edwards on his selection as Reston’s 2010 Citizen of the Year by the Reston Citizens Association; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dave Edwards as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for his significant contributions to the community of Reston.
