2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, Paul Michael Dittamo of Woodbridge, an exemplary officer of the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department, was killed in the line of duty on October 30, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Officer Dittamo and his partner were responding to a request for assistance when his police cruiser struck a wooden utility pole; Officer Dittamo died a short while later from his injuries; and
WHEREAS, Paul Dittamo was born on August 25, 1978, at Fort Belvoir to loving parents Hector and Theresa Dittamo and was one of eight siblings; and
WHEREAS, Paul Dittamo graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School and received an associate degree in culinary arts from Stratford University; and
WHEREAS, a hard-working and valued employee, Paul Dittamo worked for several years in the restaurant industry before fulfilling his entrepreneurial ambitions by opening Fox’s Pizza Den in 2005 with his family; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to the larger community, in 2009 Paul Dittamo joined the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department, one of the 10 largest local police agencies in the United States; and
WHEREAS, demonstrating great professionalism and devotion to duty, Officer Dittamo helped the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department fulfill its mission to protect and serve the residents of the District of Columbia; and
WHEREAS, though an officer for just over a year, Officer Dittamo touched the lives of his fellow officers and those he served with his ready smile and giving heart; and
WHEREAS, a tragedy for his family and the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department, Officer Dittamo’s untimely death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the first responders of the Commonwealth and nation; and
WHEREAS, in his free time, Paul Dittamo enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and his large and loving family, including his 21 nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Paul Dittamo will be greatly missed by his wife, Shana; their unborn child; his parents, Hector and Theresa; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated police officer and outstanding Virginian, Paul Michael Dittamo; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Paul Michael Dittamo as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
