11101695DWHEREAS, Jack Swicegood, a longtime volunteer with the Franklin County Rescue Squad, was inducted into the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads Hall of Fame on September 25, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a native of Tennessee, Jack Swicegood moved to Franklin County in 1960 and, desirous to serve his fellow residents in the community, joined the Franklin County Rescue Squad in 1967; and
WHEREAS, for more than four decades, Jack Swicegood has answered calls at all times of the day and night, providing critical help and information to local residents, while also supporting his fellow volunteers; and
WHEREAS, respected for his experience and expertise, Jack Swicegood has trained hundreds of people from across the Commonwealth on vital lifesaving techniques and instilled in them the value of service to others; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the need for rescue squads in the various communities throughout Franklin County, Jack Swicegood formed rescue squads in Ferrum, Glade Hill, Snow Creek, Fork Mountain, and Cool Branch, which allowed for a quicker response time to calls; and
WHEREAS, Jack Swicegood has served in numerous positions throughout the course of his long and successful career, including vice president of District Six, junior squad advisor, and chaplain of the Franklin County Squad for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, Jack Swicegood has spent countless hours serving his fellow residents over the years and has been supported in all his endeavors by his loving wife, Ruth, and their children, Diane, Mollie, and Gary and their families; and
WHEREAS, Jack Swicegood was inducted before approximately 1,500 fellow volunteers at the annual Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads banquet in Virginia Beach and received a commemorative plaque in honor of his induction and exemplary service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jack Swicegood on his induction into the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads Hall of Fame; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jack Swicegood as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his lifetime of distinguished service to his community.
