2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 2010 Northside High School softball team completed an outstanding season by defeating Abingdon High School (1 - 0) in eight innings to claim the Group AA state title; and
WHEREAS, on its way to the state championship, Northside High School took home the Region III championship and shut out Powhatan High School; and
WHEREAS, before an enthusiastic crowd at Radford University, Northside High School pitcher Lauren Boitnott struck out batter after batter inning after inning for her first complete game of the season; and
WHEREAS, in an exciting eighth inning, freshman Caitlyn Porterfield singled to center and then hustled to third on the next play before Michele Eplion batted her in for the Lady Vikings’ winning run; and
WHEREAS, the entire team practiced hard and contributed throughout the season and championship games to bring home the first state title in the program’s 21-year history; and
WHEREAS, with eight of the team’s 10 starters returning for the 2011 season, the Lady Vikings will continue their hard work in an effort to bring home another state championship; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant 2010 season of the Northside High School softball team is a tribute to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the leadership of Head Coach Lynn Richmond, and the support of the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Northside High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Northside High School softball team on their outstanding 2010 season and on winning the 2010 Virginia High School League Group AA state softball championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Lynn Richmond as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance of the Northside High School softball team.
