Celebrating the life of James A. Eichner.

WHEREAS, James A. Eichner, an admired attorney and community supporter from Richmond, died on November 20, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a native of the small community of Geneseo, New York, James Eichner was born on November 30, 1927, to loving parents Perry and Katharine Adams Euchner; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working and intelligent student, James Eichner received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law; and

WHEREAS, James Eichner proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Reserve, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander; and

WHEREAS, James Eichner’s distinguished legal career included service to the City of Richmond as senior assistant city attorney and a successful private practice, where he specialized in trial and appellate litigation; and

WHEREAS, James Eichner shared his vast wealth of experience and expertise with rising generations of attorneys as an adjunct associate professor of law at his alma mater, the University of Richmond; and

WHEREAS, respected and admired by his colleagues for his keen grasp of the law and commitment to his profession, James Eichner was a former member of the executive committee of the Richmond Bar Association and the Board of Governors of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association; and

WHEREAS, a gifted writer whose skills were honed as a one-time reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, James Eichner had a deep interest in the history and government of our country and authored several books on those subjects; and

WHEREAS, James Eichner generously devoted his time and talents to numerous organizations in the community, helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at the READ Center, and serving the fellow members of his home church; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, James Eichner leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy Wade Eichner; children, Katharine, Patricia, and Richard and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired attorney and community supporter, James A. Eichner; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James A. Eichner as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
