Celebrating the life of Sidney Boyd Savage.

WHEREAS, Sidney Boyd Savage of Fairfax, a beloved wife, mother, and admired contributor to the political process, died on January 5, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage was a gracious and kindhearted woman who devoted herself to the care of her husband and children before actively involving herself in the political process as a faithful supporter of the Democratic Party; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage married the love of her life, Stuart Savage, and together they enjoyed decades of marriage that included travel around the world in support of his service to the country as an officer of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage had the unique opportunity to observe firsthand different cultures and countries while also providing a nurturing environment in which her children could grow and thrive; and

WHEREAS, during the course of her life, Sidney Savage developed a passionate belief in the importance of the political process, and once her husband retired from the U.S. Navy, she decided to become involved with the local Democratic Party; and

WHEREAS, a tireless supporter whose positive attitude and beautiful smile endeared her to many, Sidney Savage served in endless capacities, from stuffing envelopes to opening her home for fundraisers to staffing the polls; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage had developed an understanding of the difficulties of adjusting to a new country during her time abroad and worked with the local immigrant community to help individuals learn the language and customs of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage became especially involved with the Vietnamese community, educating her new friends on the American political process and how their interests could be represented; and

WHEREAS, possessed of a strong work ethic and unfailing ability to inspire others, Sidney Savage eventually became chair of the Mason District and ran for election to the House of Delegates for the 38th District; and

WHEREAS, a woman of singular accomplishment, Sidney Savage touched the lives of countless individuals with her genuine friendship and inspired many to become more involved in and appreciate the political process; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Savage will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her loving husband, Stuart; children, Suzanne, Stephanie, and Stuart and their wonderful families; and numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Sidney Boyd Savage; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sidney Boyd Savage as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
