2011 SESSION
11103620DWHEREAS, in 2010 the St. Catherine’s School varsity athletic program enjoyed unprecedented success, with the field hockey, tennis, cross country, and volleyball teams each capturing championship titles; and
WHEREAS, with a rich tradition of encouraging young women to reach their fullest potential, St. Catherine’s School embraces the philosophy that sports empower girls for lifetime achievement and provides opportunities for athletes of all skill levels to participate; and
WHEREAS, in the span of eight days in the fall of 2010, all four St. Catherine’s School Saints varsity teams won five championships; and
WHEREAS, ending the season in total triumph, the St. Catherine’s School field hockey team capped a remarkable record of 20 wins, one loss, and two ties by winning both the League of Independent Schools (LIS) championship and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VIS) Division I state championship; and
WHEREAS, veteran field hockey Head Coach Don Warner was named LIS Coach of the Year while many of his players received individual recognition including All State Tournament MVP, three All State Tournament Team, VIS State Player of the Year, three VIS All State Team, five All LIS, and five on the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro Team; and
WHEREAS, LIS Coach of the Year Richard Peyton could not have been more proud of the St. Catherine’s School tennis team as they won their first VIS state championship, with five athletes on the All LIS Team, two on the VIS All State Team, and a season record of 18 wins to two losses; and
WHEREAS, the St. Catherine’s School cross country team added their 21st LIS championship victory to their impressive list of accomplishments, with three runners named VIS All State, six qualifying for All LIS, two named 2nd team All-Metro, and Head Coach Dave Bloor honored as LIS Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, after an undefeated regular season, the St. Catherine’s School volleyball team captured their first LIS championship, finishing their season with a record of 18 wins and three losses, two athletes named to the All LIS Team, and Head Coach Anna Prillaman celebrated as LIS Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the exemplary performance of the field hockey, tennis, cross country, and volleyball teams reflects not only the talent, dedication, and determination of the athletes, but the support provided by their families and their coaches, teachers, and fellow students at St. Catherine’s School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend St. Catherine’s School for the unprecedented success of its varsity athletics program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Julie Dayton, Athletic Director of St. Catherine’s School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the outstanding performance of its many student athletes.
