WHEREAS, William Lloyd, an outstanding young man from Washington County, was named the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador for 2010; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador program recognizes exemplary young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 for their interests and accomplishments in agriculture; and
WHEREAS, William Lloyd became the first male named as the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador when he was selected at the Virginia Farm Bureau Women’s Conference held in Fredericksburg in March 2010; and
WHEREAS, a strong supporter of youth in agriculture, William Lloyd established the E.B. Stanley Middle School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter and brought agricultural education to students at Abingdon Elementary School through the FFA PALS program; and
WHEREAS, William Lloyd has also partnered with the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom to reach elementary students through workshops and hands-on events and started the Washington County Farm Bureau Young Farmers Chapter; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable young man, William Lloyd has taught leadership workshops, spoken at numerous events, and involved himself in legislative work; and
WHEREAS, William Lloyd’s interest and passion for agriculture arises from first-hand experience; in addition to attending King College and working for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, he raises beef cattle and tobacco and operates a local greenhouse; and
WHEREAS, William Lloyd will ably represent the Virginia Farm Bureau and promote agriculture in the Commonwealth with great zeal, knowledge, and devotion as he serves as the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador for 2010; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend William Lloyd for his selection as the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador for 2010; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William Lloyd as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his commitment to agriculture in the Commonwealth.
