2011 SESSION
11103253DWHEREAS, in 2011 Reston Hospital Center will celebrate 25 years of providing quality health care to patients in the Northern Virginia area; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1986 as a 127-bed community hospital, Reston Hospital Center, now part of the HCA Virginia Health System, has grown to a 187-bed facility that, in 2009, assisted patients with 3,056 births, 43,390 emergency room visits, and 34,635 surgeries; and
WHEREAS, Reston Hospital Center provides innovative and comprehensive services to meet the varied needs of its patients, including state-of-the-art cancer services that include stereotactic radiation therapy, high dose rate (HDR) radiation, and robotic surgery; and
WHEREAS, the Breast Network of the Reston Hospital Center’s Ann B. Rodriguez Cancer Center underwent a rigorous review process and onsite visit to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers; and
WHEREAS, Reston Hospital Center, Northern Virginia’s only accredited Chest Pain Center, offers advanced cardiovascular services to treat the needs of those with heart problems, including angioplasty and vascular surgery; and
WHEREAS, mothers-to-be and their infants receive highly lauded maternity and infant care that includes a neonatal intensive care unit able to treat premature infants at just 27 weeks’ gestation; and
WHEREAS, Reston Hospital Center became the first hospital in the Washington Metropolitan Area and the Commonwealth to launch an emergency room wait time tracking system publicizing the hospital’s average wait times via text messaging, electronic banner ads, and the Internet; and
WHEREAS, Reston Hospital Center has received prestigious Magnet designation, awarded to only five percent of the nation’s hospitals for the quality of nursing care; and
WHEREAS, as Reston Hospital Center celebrates its 25th anniversary, it will also break ground on a new medical office building; continue to move forward with the master plan expansion project, which will add patient rooms, operating rooms, and an expanded emergency room; and partner with other local and regional facilities to provide needed services; and
WHEREAS, Reston Hospital Center looks forward to continuing to provide compassionate, high-quality medical care to the residents of the Northern Virginia area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Reston Hospital Center on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim McManus, President and CEO of Reston Hospital Center, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and gratitude for the hospital’s commitment to high-quality health care and patient service.
