11100689DWHEREAS, Cora Baxley Thomasson of Suffolk, a loving mother, wife, and retired educator, died on October 16, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a native of North Carolina, Cora “Sue” Thomasson was born on February 10, 1941, to loving parents Walter Johnson and Grace Baxley and was one of three siblings; and
WHEREAS, a respected educator, Sue Thomasson began her teaching career in Maryland, where she proved to be an innovative and resourceful teacher who encouraged her students to excel in their endeavors; and
WHEREAS, after moving to Suffolk, Sue Thomasson began to teach at Western Branch Elementary School, where she continued to use a variety of practices to engage her students, encouraged parents to be involved, and inspired younger teachers; and
WHEREAS, respected by her colleagues and loved by her students, Sue Thomasson completed an exemplary career in education after 29 years of teaching; and
WHEREAS, known for her positive and sweet manner, Sue Thomasson enjoyed spending time with friends and family and always had a helping hand for anyone in need; and
WHEREAS, a woman of great faith, Sue Thomasson was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in the church’s many missions in the community; and
WHEREAS, Sue Thomasson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her loving husband of 41 years, Tom; son, Tommy, and his wife, Angie; beloved grandchildren, Amber and Bryce; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of an admired educator and respected citizen, Cora Baxley Thomasson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Cora Baxley Thomasson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
