HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 564
Commending the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

WHEREAS, the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, located in Fairfax County, received a best in category award for high school science as part of the Intel School of Distinction Awards program; and

WHEREAS, the Intel School of Distinction Awards program recognizes schools whose curricula meet or exceed national standards and that demonstrate excellence in math and science education; and

WHEREAS, the Intel School of Distinction Awards recognize three elementary, middle, and high school finalists in two categories: Mathematics Excellence and Science Excellence; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology was one of three high school finalists in the Science Excellence Finalists category; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will receive a $10,000 grant for the school’s science and technology programs as well as classroom technology resources; and

WHEREAS, the award will help Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology continue to provide an outstanding real-world science education that will enable its students to pursue their higher education objectives and work in 21st century science and technology jobs; and

WHEREAS, the Intel School of Distinction Award reflects the dedication, support, and commitment to excellence of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology faculty, staff, students, administration, and parents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology for receiving a best in category award for high school science as part of the Intel School of Distinction Awards program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Evan Glazer, principal of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for the school’s commitment to outstanding science education.
